Scavenger Saturday ~Week 6

The Pocket Scavenger
Well, we all know how this works by now so shall we check out a few of this week's finds?

A Piece of Red String / Smudge Something over it
A Piece of Red String
I found this red string at the beach when Dad & I went earlier in the week. I guess technically it's not string, but it's so close, and it took me so long to find something red and string-like!
I 'smudged something over it' with watercolour paints. I was feeling a little rushed and this was all I could come up with :d

A Found Note / Add a Blob
A Found Note
Dad leaves me notes all the time and so when I had to find a note I thought not only was this an easy scavenge for an unlikely to find 'in the wild' task, but a good way of keeping the note x3
Dad found this shiny gold vinyl stuff while out on a bike ride and as it was his own scavenge I thought it was pretty appropriate when it came to the alteration x3

A Found Note / Add Something Shiny
A Found Note A Found Note
A few days after I'd completed the above page I went to the pub for one of our friends birthday. Our pub has tons of old books on shelves that no one ever looks at, but of course being a little drunk and with a bunch of people I didn't know, we started looking at the books, and in one I found this note! It was by the author to some friends he'd gifted the book to. Sadly, I can't remember the title, even after googling the author. Because it was so unusual I felt I had to put in a 50a page to include it!
I carried the theme on once I got the 'something shiny' alteration, cutting the something shiny into little blobs to put around the page XD

A Ticket / Combine with a Photo
A Ticket
This was the ticket for the Kast Off Kinks I went to see with Dad. This book seemed like an obvious place to put it :]
The alteration was to combine the scavenge with a photo, so I printed off one of the pics I took while I was there, even though I wasn't supposed to be taking pics :x

A Piece of Origami / Turn it into a Pattern. Repeat it.
A Piece of Origami
I used to like placing origami around work. I'm not sure why, I just like leaving things lying around I think! So I learnt to make these throwing stars- I have no idea how to make them anymore, but I found this one in a bag I used to use for work a fair bit.
With the alteration, it made sense to me to try and carry on the pattern using the shape of the origami. I didn't practice it before I started doodling on this page so I was pretty pleased to find out it did form a sort of pattern xD
Are you using a Keri Smith book at the moment? I'm enjoying this one & how it doesn't seem quite as in depth as the others :x

Autumn's Coming

Usually it gets to this time of year and although I count autumn as my favourite season, I just don't feel ready for it! Summer is swiftly catching up to autumn as a favourite now I enjoy sitting in the sun and warming my blood, and the sunshine really lightens my mood. But on the other hand there are autumn things that are just so hard to beat. I think this year I am ready for the change of season a little more than usual though.

Summer Greenery
There are things I'll miss about Summer though,
  • Greenery
Summer is just so colourful, it's not only greenery but all the flowers and life you see through summer. Autumn is pretty in colours, but leads up to a long period of brown and dull that I it find difficult to forgive it for ;p
  • Warm Days
What better than waking up in a morning knowing that you're not going to freeze to death while you're trying to get dressed?
  • Following on from the above, Wearing Less
Although there is a charm in wearing heavy clothes and feeling super comfy, I'm the kind of person who will wear trousers and hoodie until the temperature goes above 20 degrees :x In winter I just have to wear more hoodies or crank up the heating in the house, plus whenever I try and go for the 'oversized jumper look' I just feel ridiculous and go back to sitting by the heater for warmth.
  • Long Days
As much of a night person as I am I really like how the days are so much longer in summer, it reminds me of playing in the dusk as a kid and not even realising it was getting dark until you had to nip inside to get a drink or something. Good times. Now in my mind the best thing to do with long nights is sit out with friends and some cider, but lets face it, that never happens with my few-and-far-between days off and the irregularity of the English weather!

  • Beach Days
  • Beach Days
Living so far from the coast is tough, but when I do get to go I just appreciate it all the more! I love dossing in a sheltered spot and listening to the sea lapping the shore, throwing beach rocks at a target (usually a larger rock!), and eating fish and chips while watching the ocean. Of course, you can do all these things on autumny days, but it's just not the same as a good hot summers day!
  • No frosty cars
One of my pet peeves in the cooler months is finishing a long day of work only to have to go out into the cold to scrape solid ice off my car, then sit in the cold car while I wait for the windscreen to clear up enough that I can drive home. Urgh.

Changing Leaves
On the other hand there are some things I really like about autumn too:
  • Changing Leaves
Who doesn't like the leaves changing colour? And when they fall and all gather into piles for jumping in, yeah it's pretty sweet x3
  • Photographic Opportunities
Of course, with a new season comes new photographic opportunities, and autumn can be a lot of fun when the weather is right.
  • Pumpkin Spice
This is so american of me to say but I love pumpkin spice flavour! Here in the UK we really don't get a lot of it, but I'm hoping in the next couple of years we'll start seeing more. Until then, Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes and frappuccinos will have to do for me x3

  • Fireworks
  • Fireworks
I'm not really sure in my own mind if this is more of an autumn or winter thing, as it's usually pretty cold by the time fireworks come around, but I think technically it's autumn XD Anyway, I love watching fireworks, finding all the layers of clothing you can manage and then having a lovely hot mug of mulled cider while you watch. Awesome.
  • Less Guilt for Staying Inside
I get massive indoor guilt in the summer, even though I'm not naturally an outdoors type. I sit at my computer typing away, looking out thinking I should be enjoying the weather. And when I do go out I'm not sure what to do with myself beside squint at my 3DS screen or read a magazine XD
  • Moving Home
This is is just for this year, obviously, but I'm really looking forward to setting up my own home! I know it's going to be a challenge and I'll miss living at home like crazy, but it's time and it's come in the autumn x3 Only a couple more weeks and we'll be shifting boxes wishing it was warmer. Hopefully it won't rain while we move the biggest stuff!

So that's my list, what's your favourite part of autumn? Or are you more in favour of other seasons?

The Big Hoot ~Round 3-Last Lot

The Big Hoot 2015

This is the last of the owls I found. I even went out with Dad to Sutton Coldfield to find a bunch more, the biggest set of them outside Birmingham. Dad I had a really good day checking out Sutton Coldfield too XD We only missed finding one owl there. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'm going to get a chance to find the last few, but I found 50 altogether out of about 80? So not a bad attempt anyway.

The Big Hoot 2015
This pic is the last owl I found, and it was the Sutton Coldfield themed one x3 I hoped you didn't mind me going on about these guys, and apologies if another series come by near me cause you'll probably be seeing a lot more!

Project Wednesday ~September Garden

It's coming up to autumn and the garden is winding down. It doesn't seem all that long ago I was planting so many seeds and propagating all those tiny plants, and now they are all either at harvesting sorta time or already harvested. I'm not sure if I'll do another garden update this year as we're so close to end of season, and next year in theory I'll have my own garden! (I'm sure I'll still be over Dad's a lot though as his garden is much bigger XD)
Until then though, shall we see what's going on?

3 Tier Pot
Out the front my 'Pinterest Pot' went nuts and bulked out just as I hoped it would x3 I think it's a bit of a pin-win! I think a lot of this will die off in the winter so at the moment I'm considering putting pansies or violas in over the winter to keep some colour. As the front garden is very flower based it can look pretty grim out there in winter.

Passionflower plant
Also out the front is this beast of a plant! A couple of years back I decided I would put in a passion flower to climb up one side of the house and it's just set off! Last year we had a couple of small passion fruits off it and this year it looks like it's going for a more sizable attempt, it's the size of my palm! Now it just needs to get a little riper X3

Escapee Tomatoes
Heading towards the back garden, the tomato plants went nuts and started escaping the greenhouse XD Hopefully the tomatoes will ripen before the frosts hit, but if not perhaps we will have to make green tomato chutney (what else can you do with green tomatoes?)

Onions Drying
All the onions have been pulled now before they went to seed and are hanging to dry so we can eat them over winter. The white ones didn't grow nearly the size of the brown, but I don't know if it was caused by type or placement, or maybe a little of both. Maybe next year I'll start them off earlier under a cloche. I'll certainly try to buy the same type of brown ones!

Autumn Strawberries
All the peas have been pulled up now and in their place strawberry runners were planted to set the bed in time for next year. We didn't have a large crop this year out of the pots so we are hoping that by putting them back in the ground they'll put in a better effort.

Baby Corn
The corn is still going for it, it seems. I should probably look into what it looks like when it's ready as at the moment I don't really have any idea but I don't want it to grow just to sit on the plant and be ignored while I think it's still growing! Depending on the success of these, I'm considering putting in regular-size corn next year to see if I can decent sized cobs.

Vines Squash
Courgette Pumpkin
Lastly is my current pride and joy, the vines! My courgettes have been producing and I've already had 2 big courgettes, and there's a third massive one on the plant. There are many smaller ones too, just waiting to get bigger.
The squash didn't do so well, though not for lack of trying. So many little fruits were produced, but none really set? I'm still hoping for something though at the last minute xp
The pumpkin though is another story! Although it played the same game as the squash at first, just producing buds that never set into growing, it kept trying and has managed to get one going! And just look at it! It's growing up in the air as the vine climbed a bush, which worries me a little as it's starting to get weighty, but so far it seems to be supporting itself and getting bigger day by day. I'm excited to see how big it'll get!
Did your garden do well? Or are you just starting on it?

September Photo a Day ~Week 1

It's my first week in the September photo a day! I can't say it's been the most exciting week, it started out really slow so my photos were a little lame. You wouldn't believe I did this nearly everyday for 3 years straight and still didn't manage to pick up any tips on how to stay creative in getting photos :x

Morris
02.09.15
Considering he's the bigger brother, he's the shy one!

Citizenship
03.09.15
I finally got a letter to acknowledge receipt of my application for citizenship, fingers crossed all goes through quickly and well.

PI
04.09.15
I went over to West Brom Park Inn to help program the new menu into their tills. Although I had to do this on my day off, it's something I generally enjoy doing. If only I could get this as a job for all the hotels!

The Kast Off Kinks!
05.09.15
I went with Dad to see the Kast Off Kinks, it was his birthday present x3

Pets @ Home magazines ^^;
06.09.15
Sunday was a beautiful day! Of course, I had to work. But first I spent an hour outside reading the new Pets at Home magazine. You don't understand how keen I am on free shop magazines :x

View at Criccieth
07.09.15
Monday Dad and I went to the beach! We visited some beaches we've not been to before and again the weather was so good, it was a long but really great day. This pic was taken at Criccieth after we ate dinner x3

Melon Plant
08.09.15
This plant was given to me a few weeks ago by someone Face knows, it's a melon plant! I'm not sure if it's going to get far at this time of year but it is certainly trying, climbing the date plant like crazy!
Remember you can join in too! Let me know if you do, I love to check out other photo-a-day projects!

The Pocket Scavenger ~Week 5

The Pocket Scavenger
Well, we all know how this works by now so shall we check out a few of this week's finds?

An Image of a Character / Add Clouds
An Image of a Character
This one was a patch found on my desk, that's been hanging around since 2013 XD I really like it but couldn't think of anything to put it on, but well, that's solved now!
The alteration was super fitting too and so this little doodle just made sense :]

Something that is Miniature / Add a Newspaper Clipping
Something that is Miniature
These little sewing kits came in at work and I straight away wondered where I could find a place for one in the pocket scavenger XD As there was no red string I decided this page suited it best.
For the alteration I went and found a clipping from our stash of newspapers, this clipping seemed suitably weird XD

A Piece of Flat Candy / What would you have done at age 5?
A Piece of Flat Candy
I wasn't sure what kind of candy sweet I would put on this page at first, and had actually found a love heart to put on here before going into a sweet shop up town and finding these rice paper notes, which instantly seemed like the best idea x3
The prompt I found asked me to do what I would've done age 5....which was eat the sweets, not stick them in a book! So I munched a bit then stuck them in x3 Also, glue does not react very well to rice paper, I should've used double sided tape :x

A Few Seed Pods / Draw a Box
A Few Seed Pods
I thought I'd already posted this page but I can't see it when I look back, so excuse me if I did miss it :x These helicopters I found while out on a daytrip with Dad, they're still green as I picked them off a tree, but i presume in time they may turn brown...not that any of that is important! XD
Draw a box...i just used some washi to make a sort of frame around the helicopters and bring a little colour.

A Used Tea Bag / Turn into an Island
A Used Tea Bag
This one is edging towards the gross I don't like to include in these books, but I thought I would try and let it go, and chose a teabag that came with a small cake in my Graze box. This tea is really fragrant and I try to drink it with the cake it comes with for a little 'experience' XD
The alteration was to turn it into an island and all I could think about were treasure maps then, so that's what this became! I'm not sure i liked how the colouring turned out but I'll get over that too XD
Is there a particular scavenge you think I should go find? Let me know! x3

Catchup Sunday ~Days

So there's not much to say about this week. I didn't have any time off until Saturday, and I didn't really get out, though not for trying!

Architects of Air
On Monday Face finally had a morning off and I wasn't in till the evening so we went up town where there as this massive inflatable thing up for the bank holiday. It was called 'Architects of Air' and was all lit up inside and just something unusual to look at. It sounded really interesting from all the adverts on Facebook and that but when we got there the queue was just full of parents and their young kids and it kinda put me off. I'd got the impression that it was for anyone to see but been left with more of a feeling of childishness. Bleh.

Pumpkin
I've got a pumpkin that's set in the garden! I'm really excited about it XD I took this photo around Wednesday, and it's already grown bigger! I think I'll show you more around the garden on Wednesday as not we're coming into autumn quite a bit is changing and slowing down.

Morris & Austin
I couldn't resist posting this photo, even though it's blurry. Aren't these boys just so cute?! x3

Kast Off Kinks
Saturday was finally the day of the Kast Off Kinks, tickets I'd bought for Dad for his birthday. It featured actual members of the band and of course they played all the top tracks. I'm sad and I don't care xp They even played one of my favourites- Days <3 And of course Waterloo Sunset! Dad seemed to really enjoy himself which of course was the point of the whole thing x3 It seems ages since I went to a concert so it was awesome to do something different too.
Did you have a good week? Get up to much?

This Time Last Year ~September 2014 Mallorca Holiday

Last year was a year of trips away, which was pretty good as my passport was so close to expiry and I still haven't got too far in replacing it :/ So I can look back on this holiday at least.

Porto Cristo Harbour
I went away with Face's family to Porto Cristo, Mallorca. I understood they were the kind of family who enjoyed sitting around the complex pool and just soaking up the sun, but we actually did quite a bit, something I'm much more used to! After all, if you don't come back off a holiday needing another holiday, you're doing something wrong! Okay, well it didn't quite come to that but I was happy with getting lots of photos of our corner of the island :]

Porto Cristo Town
We explored the town a few times, some of the streets were very much a Spanish holiday town, which of course I enjoyed getting shots of x3 This street led up to a small church, and also has a couple of really cute corner shops x3

Porto Cristo Boats
As you may expect from the name, Porto Cristo has a pretty large port, another great place for pics for me x3 Not living anywhere near the sea in the UK either, it's always really fun to wander ports and the like and it really boosts the feeling of holiday to hear the water lapping on the shore & boat sides.

Near Porto Cristo
A couple of days rather than using our legs we caught the 'mini tren', a small land train that tootled you around the town and to a bunch of nearby beaches. It was a great little mooch to see a little out of the town and get some views, like of this beautiful blue sea and the cliffs!

Porto Cristo Caves
Literally 5 minutes walk from our hotel was a large cave system, so of course we had to go check it out too! They were pretty extensive and it took us about an hour to wander around, even with guides pushing us along (I dawdled at the back getting photos...). At the end there was a massive cave with a lake and they put on a show with a few small lit up boats with orchestral-style music. It was really pretty.

Porto Cristo Market
On our last day we caught the market in the town, it was a good end to our holiday :]
I can't wait till I can get away again, although I think even a UK holiday would be fine for me right now! Have you been to Mallorca? Where did you stay? I would've loved to see the capital, but I'm happy with what we did get to see ^^
